IFF antennas are electronic Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) air traffic control recognition devices and systems designed to prevent military friendly-fire incidents, detect potential adversary incursions, support operational decision-making, and reduce casualties in the air, on land, and at sea.

Antenna Experts IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) antenna is used to transmits signals to identify friendly aircraft or other military assets and receives replies to determine if they are friendly or hostile. 

IFF antenna are passive, multi-channel, vertical polarized, omni-directional L band antenna operating from 960-1240MHz, compliant with Universal Access Transceiver (UAT 978MHz) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B 1090MHz) frequency bands. Our IFF antenna also supports 1030-1090MHz Air Traffic Controller (ATC) Mode-S and 976-1213MHz Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) applications.

The IFF antenna uses extended stub in order to keep the radiator away from aircraft so that the interference caused by aircraft body could be minimize. IFF antenna does not use any junction to prevent RF inter-modulation and is completely protected within a high-tech ruggedized fiber glass radome to ensure survivability in the worst environments.

Bulkhead N-Female connector is fixed at the bottom of antenna which allow smooth mounting of antenna thru aircraft chassis.

Identification Friend-or-Foe (IFF) is a secure aircraft identification system that detects and tells us the difference between the friendly and hostile aircrafts. These systems use electromagnetic and RF devices to communicate with the aircrafts and identifying friendly, foe or neutral forces in airspace.

IFF antenna uses special stub matching is used for smooth VSWR and constant gain over the entire frequency band. IFF antenna is free from ground plane and can be installed on metallic or non-metallic surface which eliminates the distortion of the radiation pattern and ensures a true omni-directional horizontal pattern.

IFF system is center of military operations as it allows armed forces to recognize friends and identify potential hostiles. One holes of 16mm diameter is required to mount the antenna. A rubber “O” gasket and high-quality nuts are supplied with the antenna to mount the same on aircraft body. An IFF system is a is a two-channel system, using the 1030 MHz band for interrogating signals and the 1090 MHz band for response signals.
